My name is Makena and I am a writer, editor, and content marketer based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
I'm passionate about people, the planet, and really yummy food.
I'm always open to new opportunities! My specialties include blog and article writing, copy writing, brand marketing, and editing.
My main fields of interest are wellness, food, tourism, and travel. I also enjoy writing about pop-culture (ardent reality TV fan), music, sustainable lifestyles, and relationships.

I'm also the creator of a new Vancouver food Instagram, @sunkissedeats.
My Story
Growing up in beautiful British Columbia, with the opportunity to live in and visit many countries such as Spain and Taiwan, has given me a passion for showing love to people and this beautiful planet we live on. I always strive for my writing and editing to reflect this, whether through open advocacy or making a reader feel seen with a down-to-earth travel blog or wellness column.

I graduated in 2022 from Trinity Western University with a BA in English and a minor in media and communications (professional writing stream). During my time there I held three positions with the student newspaper, Mars' Hill: arts and culture editor, chief copy editor, and editor in chief. My writing during this time was centered around student advocacy, sustainability, current events, and pop-culture.
Since then, I've had the opportunity to work as a marketing coordinator for Tourism Abbotsford, where I sharpened my blog writing, content creation, editing, newsletter production, and marketing skills.

I now work for Alive Publishing Group as an editor and staff writer, where I've had the opportunity to write and edit for both print and digital, as well as oversee the creation of two natural health publications. Visit my portfolio to read examples of my work!
